UCL: Guardiola blames referee as Man City fail to beat Monaco

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has hit out at “Spanish referees” following their 2-2 draw with Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

A controversial late penalty saw City drop two points against the Ligue 1 side.

Following a VAR review, referee Jesus Gil Manzano pointed to the spot, after Nico Gonzalez made high contact with Eric Dier inside the box.

The decision led to clashes between both benches, with red cards shown as tensions boiled over.

After the match, Guardiola told reporters: “Nothing to say to Spanish referees.

“We played a really good game. Of course, we were close but at the end we could not defend the free-kick well and we conceded the penalty.

“In football you have to win with the result. If you analyse the game there were many things that were good.”
