Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has opened up about her early working relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing how their collaborations blossomed into a genuine friendship and creative mentorship.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Irawo” hitmaker discussed how their music chemistry led to several collaborations, including their joint track “Crazy”.

The singer revealed that she had also provided background vocals for a few of his early records.

“I did Crazy with Wizkid. I featured him on the song, and he featured me on one of his songs. I also did some background vocals for a couple of his other songs. We became genuine friends,” she recounted.

Expressing admiration for Wizkid’s artistry, Seyi Shay described him as a creative force unlike any other.

“He’s incredibly smart and talented. I’ve seen him record while eating, and that was mind-blowing to me. He’s like a magician. I’m heavily attracted to people of extraordinary talent. My spirit, connects with people that are inhumanly talented” she said.

Beyond their studio sessions, Seyi Shay noted that Wizkid often offered her valuable guidance on navigating fame and the challenges of the entertainment industry.

“He used to advise me a lot and tell me how people behave in this industry,” she added.
