Yobe Hisbah destroys alcohol, arraigns suspected prostitutes

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed a large quantity of confiscated alcoholic drinks and arraigned suspected prostitutes and alcohol offenders in court after a major operation in Garin Alkali town, Walawa community, in Gashua Local Government Area.

The exercise, which took place on August 19, also involved the burning of alcoholic beverages seized in Bursari Local Government Area.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Yagida Abubakar, said the operation was carried out in line with the Hisbah mandate to enforce the sanctity of Sharia and the laws of Yobe State.

“Alcohol consumption and prostitution are heinous acts prohibited in Islam. This destruction exercise is in continuation of our duty to uphold Sharia and moral values in the state,” he said.

The suspects arrested during the raid were arraigned before a Sharia court in Gashua for prosecution.
